      Mrs. Byrdie Gayman of 131 W. McCreight Avenue died in City Hospital at 4:10 p.m. Friday. She had been seriously ill for several weeks.

      Mrs. Gayman came to Springfield 32 years ago to become matron of the Knights of Pythias Children's Home. She was the widow of L. E. Gayman, a teacher at Schaefer Junior High School who died in 1957.

      She was a member of the First Baptist Church and taught the Philathea Sunday School class for many years. She was also president of the Clark County W.C.T.U.

      Survivors include a son, Vaughn of Dubuque, Iowa; three grandsons; a sister, Miss Mae Moore of Springfield, and a sister, Mrs. Mattie Jones, in Columbus.

      Her body was taken to Richards Memorial Home, where friends may call after 7 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Dr. Edgar Drummel of First Baptist Church will conduct last rites at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
