    • At residence of Abel Samuel Gaymann, Meigs Tp, Adams Co O (P.O. Peebles RD 1) Oct 29, 1925 12:07 PM

We arrived here half an hour or so ago & have had an excellent dinner which Mrs Gaymann had just ready when we came in. Mr Gaymann is a fine strong, big able & intelligent man. He is sawing logs & has just left to go to work with the men he has working with him. He says his father came to America in 1833 [sic] & when he was 19 yrs old. ┘Cu┘DHis┘C/u┘D parents came over later. He & his wife were both from Torboine? in Lorraine France.
Abel S. Gaymann says he was born in White Oak Tp, Highland Co, O June 22, 1868 son of Charles GÔuemann & his wife Mary E. Goux. On Feby 7, 1924, he married Tillie Bess Thomas born on this farm Sept 2, 1867 dau of Geo A. Thomas & his wife Sarah Jane Wittenmyer, being Mr Gaymann's 2┘Csup┘Dd┘C/sup┘D wife. No issue, nor did he have any by his first wife.
They have brought out the old bible of Mrs Gaymann's father & grandfather which was printed for Matthew Carey, Phila Pa Oct 27, 1802. On that page is written: "James Moore from Aughnady, County Tyrone, Parish of Carranteel & Barony of Dungannon, Ireland".

┘Cu┘D┘Cb┘DLife Sketch of Charles Gayman, Sr┘C/u┘D┘C/b┘D.
Charles, eldest son of John and Margaret [Marguerite Plancon] Gayman, was born at Haricourt, France, [HÔericourt, , Haute Saone, France] August 8, 1831. He was of a family of four children. One brother, John Gayman, and one sister, Susan Sauner, preceded him to the spirit world, the other sister, Adaline Kelly, still living.
At the age of twenty years he emigrated to this country, settling near Mowrystown, Ohio, where he lived until the evening of January 10, 1917, when the gathering shadows began to enshroud mother earth, and the kind Heavenly Father said, "Servant of God, it is enough, come up higher," and he passed peacefully into that better country where Jesus is the Light thereof and where sickness, sorrow, and death cannot come, being aged eighty-five years, five months and two days.
In the year 1855 he was united in marriage with Mary Elizabeth Goux, also a native of France. To this union were born ten children, five sons and five daughters. One son and two daughters died in their infancy. Those who survive are Charles of West Union, Ohio, Noah of Taylorsville, Ohio, Abel S. of Florence, Nebraska, Edward C. of Decatur, Ill., Jennie of Cincinnati, Ohio, Louisa, wife of A. F. Liebert, and Julia, wife of W. H. Walker, both of Mowrystown, Ohio. The mother of these children went to her heavenly reward February 27, 1878.
In the year 1861, he became a charter member of the Baptist church at Bell's Run, and was baptized by Rev. R. B. Deroch [Diroche] of Detroit, Michigan, in the waters of Plum Run Creek. He was later elected a deacon of that church, also serving as a local minister of the same for twenty-four years, being faithful in the discharge of his duties in these relations. He loved to attend the services of God's house, and was an attentive listener to the preaching of God's Word by other ministers.
In the year 1880 [25 Nov 1880], he was married to Miss Margarite Trickler [Margaret Trichler] of Adams County, Ohio, who faithfully discharged her duties as wife and a mother to his home until March 26, 1895, when she also passed to the reward of those who love God and minister to others.
He would often say that this world is full of sorrow and trouble, but he bore these with patience, saying that these would not be when we get to Heaven. He loved his fellowmen and especially did he love children, among whom he had many friends who called him Grandpa.
After the death of his second companion, he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. W. H. Walker, who, it must be said, cared for him tenderly during his declining years.
He leaves to mourn, one sister, seven children, thirteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren, and a large company of friends to which he bids an affectionate good-bye.
